I will be attending Paul Quinn College in Dallas, Texas, majoring in business and entrepreneurship. My hard dedication to school and getting good grades has created a different path for me and I’m ready to face the challenges college is going to throw at me. I would like to thank the Stanley Ann Dunham Scholarship Fund for helping me being able to take this chance and Seattle Public Schools for always challenging me to be my best.

I plan on attending the University of Washington in the fall studying biochemistry on a pre-dental track. I love to volunteer as I was Lieutenant Governor of 10 Key Clubs in my area and I am passionate about spreading more AAPI awareness in my community!

Jaya will be attending Chapman University in Southern California, majoring in Business Marketing and Public Relations. As a scholar, tennis player, and cheerleader, she hopes to embody resilience, competitiveness, and a positive spirit as she faces the college adventure ahead. Jaya’s volunteer service as an advocate for youth battling mental health issues will inspire her to remain compassionate and empathetic towards others for the rest of her life. Jaya would like to thank the Stanley Ann Dunham Scholarship Fund Committee for this generous gift towards her higher education goals. Jaya would also like to thank the Mercer Island School District for a wonderful public school education!

Ruby is planning to attend Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York, this fall. She is a filmmaker and community organizer born and raised in the south end of Seattle. At a young age, Ruby was introduced to artists and activists working to foster creative leadership in the community’s young people. Through youth programming in Seattle, she was able to explore realms of her personal identity and has been impacted by organizations like AGE UP, Vera Project, Rain City Rock Camp, and Youth In Focus. For Ruby, access to arts education was vital to who she is a filmmaker today, and believes, that creative expression goes hand in hand with social justice work. She aims to hold this core ideology at the center of her work. She is committed to the success of her fellow BIPOC, Queer, femme-identifying young revolutionaries and the amplification of their voices. When she’s not doing all that, you’ll probably find her listening to music and drinking way too much coffee.

Angeline plans to major in Biology on the pre-medicine track at Tulane University starting this fall. Outside of school, she is involved in many volunteering activities relating to music and medicine and she plans to be a part of the CACTUS program at Tulane to continue promoting genuine community service. She hopes to encourage young girls to pursue a career in STEM, reflecting one of Durham’s values.

I plan to attend South Seattle Community College for two years and then transfer to university. My goal is to major in International Relations, focusing on becoming an embassy worker. I’m driven by the desire to travel extensively and help people. When I’m not busy with school or family, you’ll find me at the food bank. Believe it or not, I’ve been at it even before quarantine hit! It’s been an absolute delight reconnecting with familiar faces I haven’t seen in years. This scholarship is a game-changer, bringing me closer to my goal. My education has emboldened me to pursue change in the various inequitable systems that surround us. My commitment to campaigning and organizing around creating meaningful change is lifelong, and I aim to continue supporting my communities as I transition into college and my dream of entering the healthcare field. I will be attending the University of Washington for both the Neuroscience program and an amazing, diverse education that will further enrich my growth and perspective as I work towards medical school. I‘m deeply grateful for the Stanley Ann Dunham Scholarship Fund Committee‘s support, and I hope to expand my vision towards addressing healthcare inequity and inaccessibility within local and global communities.
